I always learn something interesting reading your posts, David. I will need to reread this one. Lots of food for thought. Thanks!

this is one of those posts that I was reluctant to write about. Emotionally charged topic, however I feel I needed to examine what is considered the word of God and what does it really say. I have thoughts a couple of different ways on this. Many of the laws were designed to avoid problems. The sexual laws were designed to avoid problems, my take on them. if you have in breeding sooner or later there will be problems. Also relationship problems. there was a discovery several decades ago of a long extinct isolated community that they thought was the remnants of a viking colony. Lots of dwarfs and defective skeletons, the thought was that they became isolated and inbreed. For some reason they could not exit their colony, maybe not enough good trees to make boats for the get away. In the end they all perished. Goes back to these sexual rules in Leviticus?

I personally feel that homosexuality was not what God intended for his creation, he made male and female and there in procreation. I also feel that far too many people get caught up in this or that emotion and then get swept away with it. there is a logic and an order to the logic that should be followed.

The turn the other cheek tribe, very interesting. Maybe a nice idea (in some circumstances) that they took too far.

Would like to know what Paul meant by the thorn?

I'm not connected to any religion but the impulse to know Source has always been with me. Particularly outside of any structure. Direct-connect. (Tried being an atheist in my twenties - wouldn't work.) The intuition was always there. And the aversion to religion as well. (My mother told me I fainted the first time she brought me to church)

Years ago I had dreams of what I assume would be prior lives as a scribe during the time of, or just after, Jesus. This was after meeting someone in a religious studies class (Liked to take the classes, not go to the services) who I just knew I knew. (We argued like old friends right from the start.)

In the dream we were arguing over text and meaning; how something should be expressed. (I doubt we'll ever agree.) Also had some dreams as an initiate of Hermes. Maybe given those life times, I'm just over the group thing.

I don't have any opinion on how people express themselves sexually as long as there is no harm involved - to themselves or another. Today the take-over around sex and children is jaw-dropping. Very much an agenda to disrupt natural, organic development and human connection as a foundation to sexual intimacy. Very concerning.

I know there is much in the old and new testament that sheds light on these times and is rich in knowledge and inspiration. I can't help but think, like many other things, it was interfered with too, and some of it was hijacked to influence believers towards a particular end. I could certainly be wrong.

Either way I love hearing what other have gotten out of those studies. Thanks again.

just posted a new post, thought I should talk about Paul, should inflame people.

there is that saying that there are no atheists in fox holes. I think it is true, was on a sub out on a mission, we tried to get home early as mission was complete. Sent a message with one of those little floating delayed message senders that send the message after waiting an hour so you can be far away, then blows ups. Did not work, Ruskies came after us, found us, depth-charged us, crippled the sub, nuclear coolant leak, scrambled the reactor, sank to the bottom, ruskies pinging and depth-charging for several days. nasty situation, that became a fox hole and started my prayer life. if you have netflix watch the movie K-19 the widow maker, that will give you some idea.

i totally agree with you as to people's expressions, do no harm, fine with me.

Wow David. What an experience. I don't have netflix, but can my son's account and will check it out. I'm a fan of bubble bursting, or inflaming people too. It's good to get uncomfortable - usually means we're growing.

Thanks.

David, I felt it should be time for another post from you. Now I have new things to ponder.

In Puerto Rico there is a tiny frog called coqui. I love those little frogs and even had one in my shower for a long time. I made him a safe place with rocks. If I got up in the night I often saw him (or her) on the lavatory in the bathroom.

Thank you for another informative post which gives me more to ponder.

Blessings

Amazing how God had to spoon-feed everything to the Israelites. I guess after 350 or so years as slaves, the generation Moses liberated had never tasted freedom or known what it was like to self-determine. From our modern viewpoint, at least for me who has lived some degree of freedom in the U.S. all his life, it's hard to identify with them.

And a couple of chapters later, God had to explain what would happen if they broke any of these laws. They needed the explicit penalties they would suffer if they were naughty.

Interested in your translation and take on the last 2 verses of the OT: Malachi 4: 5-6.

looked at Malachi 4: 5-6, yes Elijah is here, that I know for sure, working softly. "See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”

Strange that you would send that to me. Thanks.

very insightful take, unfortunately I do not have my reference library here, gave it all away just before moving here. I will take a look tomorrow and see. Malachi was written in Aramaic and I did not translate most of the Aramaic, only the part of the Old Testament that was written in the old Hebrew. I only translated a few verses for a friend in Zachariah that had to do with the 7 candles with lips on the two lamp stands with the olive tree next to them. that was most interesting and revealing and definitely speaks to the times we are in, Elijah is one of the lamp stands and also one of the candles, well at least from my take, perspective and understanding. Has to do with a vision that I saw along time ago. Helped to clarify that vision.
